Play to Your Strength

by Os Hillman

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. - 1 Corinthians 12:4

Have you ever tried to do anything that you were not gifted to do? I am not a handy man. If there is a household project, like a plumbing leak or anything mechanical - forget it. God has not given me any "natural" gifts for such things. And I’d prefer not buying anything that requires assembly!

I have a friend who can fix or assemble anything. It comes naturally to him, and he loves to help me. This same person looks at some of my abilities and marvels. We appreciate the gifts God has given to each of us. These differences have created a need for one another. God wants each of us to need one another. The Scriptures describe the Body of Christ in the same way. Each person is a member of His Body with gifts and talents designed to make His Body perform as a multi-talented group, all playing to the same tune. It is when one member is "out of tune" or decides he doesn’t like his gifts, or decides to do something he is not designed to do that the orchestra begins to sound off key. Imagine if the parts of the human body decided they didn’t want to fulfill their parts any longer. That body would no longer function effectively because one or more of its members were not performing the functions they were designed for.

What has He equipped you for? What role has he called you to play in God’s Kingdom? When one link in the chain is weakened, the whole chain is susceptible to breaking. God made it that way so that we could help that weak link. He made it that way so we would be forced to depend on one another. Are you being a strong link in the chain of God’s Kingdom? Ask Him if you are fulfilling your role as He designed.

the duck and the devil

Here is a small article I received from a friend from Nigeria. Hope this will bring fresh revelation in your walk with God in Christ

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slngshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods; but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was walking back he saw Grandma’s pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head and killed it.

He was shocked and grieved! In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile; only to see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing. After lunch the next day Grandma said, ‘Sally, let’s wash the dishes’ But Sally said, ‘Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.’ Then she whispered to him, ‘Remember the duck?’ So Johnny did the dishes. Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Grandma said, ‘I’m sorry but I need Sally to help make supper.’ Sally just smiled and said, ‘Well that’s all right because Johnny told me he wanted to help’ She whispered again, ‘Remember the duck?’

So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help. After several day of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally’s; he finally couldn’t stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, ‘Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you.’

Thought for the day and every day thereafter? Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done… And the devil keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.) ..whatever it is…You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing.

He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven. He’s just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave of you. The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness; He not only forgives you, but He forgets.

It is by God’s grace and mercy that we are saved. Go ahead and make the difference in someone’s life today. Share this with a friend and always remember: God is at the window! When Jesus died on the cross; He was thinking of you!

Testimoniy that meant to be an encouragement in our walk with God in the area of prayers =).

May God bless you richly as you take time to read this testimony.

This story was written by a doctor who worked in South Africa .

One night I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward; but in spite of all we could do, she died leaving us with a tiny premature baby and a crying two-year-old daughter. We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive, as we had no incubator (we had no electricity to run an incubator). We also had no special feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator, nights were often chilly with treacherous drafts.

One student midwife went for the box we had for such babies and the cotton wool that the baby would be wrapped in. Another went to stoke up the fire and fill a hot water bottle. She came back shortly in distress to tell me that in filling the bottle, it had burst (rubber perishes easily in tropical climates). ‘And it is our last hot water bottle!’ she exclaimed. As in the West, it is no good crying over spilled milk so in Central Africa it might be considered no good crying over burst water bottles. They do not grow on trees, and there are no drugstores down forest pathways.

‘All right,’ I said, ‘put the baby as near the fire as you safely can, and sleep between the baby and the door to keep it free from drafts. Your job is to keep the baby warm.’

The following noon, as I did most days, I went to have prayers with any of the orphanage children who chose to gather with me. I gave the youngsters various suggestions of things to pray about and told them about the tiny baby. I explained our problem about keeping the baby warm enough, mentioning the hot water bottle, and that the baby could so easily die if it got chills. I also told them of the two-year-old sister, crying because her mother had died.

During prayer time, one ten-year old girl, Ruth, prayed with the usual blunt conciseness of our African children. ‘Please, God’ she prayed, ’send us a water bottle. It’ll be no good tomorrow, God, as the baby will be dead, so please send it this afternoon.’ While I gasped inwardly at the audacity of the prayer, she added, ‘And while You are about it, would You please send a dolly for the little girl so she’ll know You really love her?’ As often with children’s prayers, I was put on the spot. Could I honestly say, ‘Amen’? I just did not believe that God could do this. Oh, yes, I know that He can do everything, the Bible says so. But there are limits, aren’t there?

The only way God could answer this particular prayer would be by sending me a parcel from homeland. I had been in Africa for almost four years at that time, and I had never, ever received a parcel from home. Anyway, if anyone did send me a parcel, who would put in a hot water bottle? I lived on the equator! Halfway through the afternoon, while I was teaching in the nurses’ training school, a message was sent that there was a car at my front door..

By the time I reached home, the car had gone, but there, on the veranda, was a large twenty-two pound parcel. I felt tears pricking my eyes. I could not open the parcel alone, so I sent for the orphanage children. Together we pulled off the string, carefully undoing each knot. We folded the paper, taking care not to tear it unduly. Excitement was mounting. Some thirty or forty pairs of eyes were focused on the large cardboard box. From the top, I lifted out brightly colored, knitted jerseys. Eyes sparkled as I gave them out. Then there were the knitted bandages for the leprosy patients, and the children looked a little bored. Then came a box of mixed raisins and sultanas - that would make a batch of buns for the weekend.

Then, as I put my hand in again, I felt the…..could it really be? I grasped it and pulled it out - yes, a brand-new, rubber hot water bottle. I cried. I had not asked God to send it; I had not truly believed that He could.. Ruth was in the front row of the children. She rushed forward, crying out, ‘If God has sent the bottle, He must have sent the dolly too!’

Rummaging down to the bottom of the box, she pulled out the small, beautifully dressed dolly. Her eyes shone! She had never doubted! Looking up at me, she asked: ‘Can I go over with you and give this dolly to that little girl, so she’ll know that Jesus really loves her?’ That parcel had been on the way for five whole months. Packed up by my former Sunday school class, whose leader had heard and obeyed God’s prompting to send a hot water bottle, even to the equator. And one of the girls had put in a dolly for an African child - five month s before, in answer to the believing prayer of a ten-year-old to bring it ‘that afternoon’. ‘Before they call, I will answer’ (Isaiah 65:24) This awesome prayer takes less than a minute. When you receive this, say the prayer, that’s all you have to do. No strings attached. Just send it on to whomever you want - but do send it on. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. T here is no cost but a lot of rewards. Let’s continue praying for one another !

‘Father, I ask you to bless my friends reading this right now. I am asking You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them Your peace and mercy. Where there is self doubting, release a renewed confidence to work through them. Where there is spiritual stagnation, I ask You to renew them by revealing Your nearness, and by drawing them into greater intimacy with You. Where there is fear, reveal Your love, and release to them Your courage. Bless their finances, give them greater vision, and raise up leaders and friends to support and encourage them. Give each of them discernment to recognize the evil forces around them, and reveal to them the power they have in You to defeat it. I ask you to do these things in Jesus’ name. ‘

Fruitful Sunday

January 27th, 2008 by hulinza

Personally, I thank God for what He has done today. It’s been a day that is brightened up due to "the love of father-son" relationship. I was having sunday worship in church. But it wasn’t the way I have expected to turn out. After the worship, we were all having discussion among the youth-groups.

Suddenly, one of the younger youths just turned to me and asked where is Uncle R. He continued to ask further about whether or not Uncle R is no longer joining the group. I was so touched to hear that from him and my heart just melted. It was such a marvelous moment of the day. The fact that touched me was about youths are actually observing and they know who are the people that have been guiding and mentoring them in church.

After church, I just went for lunch with friends then continued on by hanging around Westmall with a good friend of mine. We indeed had number of discussion and I had opportunity to let Uncle R about youths missing him. We left that place about 5 and then I decided to get an early dinner.

Just before I had my dinner at clementi, I receive message from Uncle R, and he mentioned about missing the youths also. At that moment, I was too happy and had no words to express the beauty of what God has done in the youth group. It was really moment of beauty where God is showing me about "father-son" relationship in church.

That was the moment where God also renewed His love for me. I’ve been praying for a more exciting journey and opportunity to get to know more of Him this year. Praise God for all He’s done in my life today.

Amen!!!

Still Small Voice Of The Lord

January 16th, 2008 by hulinza

Your Still Small Voice

Verse

Your still small voice call out to me Lord Jesus

When I fall down You pick me up

When I was lost, You’ll never let me go

My Jesus, my Savior, Comforter, Deliverer

Counsellor, Redeemer, Restorer, Overcomer

Chorus

Your Still small voice O Lord

Speaking to my heart, whisper to my soul

Holy Spirit come and guide me

Take me to that place where the Spirit of God is

Bridge

I need Your touch O Lord

Your warm embrace

Comforting hands that lift me up

yeah.. That is my second written song. The song birth forth due to the fact that God has been speaking and encouraging me in time when I need Him the most. Despite of drifting away from Him, having to meet some messy life and making mistakes, He is always there. I got to know that He is speaking to me when I was in total silent in the morning and bible verses just speaking to me. Such an encouragement from the Most High.

I gotta admit that He has been so good to me and that by His grace, I was lifted up times and times again. I could recall what my pastor was preaching on sunday as well. Yeah.. he was sharing about God’s character in terms of His deliberate love upon us. For the fact that He loves us so much that He forgives our sins when we confess and repent ( 1 John 1:9 –> IF we CONFESS our sins, He is faithful and just to FORGIVE us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness )

There are many many verses in the bible that speaks of God’s loving character. But one thing for sure is that He also discipline His children. Striving to work out salvation with fear and tremble — as apostle Paul said — has been resounding in my spirit all these while. I do sometimes feeling undeserve to serve Him at times, but His voice always encourages me to receive His unconditional Love and surrender my life unto Him.

Surrendering is not an easy task indeed. What I learnt is that there is no surrendering if there is no Submissive and Obedience. Wonderful isn’t it??? It is just the exact meaning of SOS. That’s how the Lord taught me the meaning of SOS. As we drew huge SOS sign, we automatically have given up the signal of we are SURRENDERING, then accompanied by having step of OBEDIENCE to our helper and therefore being SUBMISSIVE to the One who is helping us.

Nowadays the word SOS has been a great reminder to me whenever He assigned me to be His tools in the area of ministry in church. I have been feeling excited and thrill to know what He has prepared in store for His people and myself. For those who are reading this blog, I wanna encourage you to take personal step to enter into personal intimacy + obedience and rest in Him ==> Hewbrews 4:11. It’s gonna be amazing journey for both physical and your spiritual aspect.

May God bless you =)

Cheers!!!

4 boyfriend???

December 6th, 2007 by hulinza

Hi all.. its been months since i updated my blog on friendster. Right here i am putting on an article shared by my Nigerian friend. Hope this article speaks to you who is going to read it in a while. God bless you always. =)

Cheers =)

This is something to think about:  4 BOYFRIENDS

Once upon a time there was this girl who had four boyfriends.

She loved the 4th boyfriend the most and adored him with rich robes and treated him to the finest of    delicacies. She gave him nothing but the best.

She also loved the 3rd boyfriend very much and was always showing him off to neighboring kingdoms. However, she feared that one day he would leave her for another.

She also loved her 2nd boyfriend. He was her confidant and was always kind, considerate and patient with her. Whenever this girl faced a problem, she could confide in him, and he would help her get through the difficult  times.

The girls 1st boyfriend was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining her wealth and kingdom. However, she did not love the first boyfriend. Although he loved her deeply, she hardly took notice of him!

One day, the girl fell ill and she knew her time was short. She thought of her luxurious life and wondered,    I now have four boyfriends with me, but when I die, I’ll be all alone."

Thus, she asked the 4th boyfriend, "I loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"No way!", replied the 4th boyfriend, and he walked away without another word.

His answer cut like a sharp knife right into her heart.

The sad girl then asked the 3rd boyfriend, "I loved you all my life. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"No!", replied the 3rd boyfriend. "Life is too good! When you die, I’m going to marry someone else!"

Her heart sank and turned cold.

She then asked the 2nd boyfriend, "I have always
turned to you for help and you’ve always been there for me.

When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"I’m sorry, I can’t help you out this time!", replied the 2nd boyfriend. "At the very most, I can only walk with you to your grave."

His answer struck her like a bolt of lightning, and the girl was devastated.

Then a voice called out: "I’ll go with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go."

The girl looked up, and there was her first boyfriend. He was very skinny as he suffered from malnutrition and neglect.

Greatly grieved, the girl said, "I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!"

In truth, you have 4 boyfriends in your lives:

Your 4th boyfriend is your body. No matter how much time and effort you lavish in making it look good, it will leave you when you die.

Your 3rd boyfriend is your possessions, status and wealth. When you die, it will all go to others.

Your 2nd boyfriend is your family and friends. No matter how much they have been there for you, the furthest they can stay by you is up to the grave.

And your 1st boyfriend is your Soul. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world.

However, your Soul is the only thing that will follow you where ever you go.Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of you that will follow you to the throne of God and continue with you throughout Eternity.

Thought for the day:Remember, when the world pushes you to your knees, you’re in the perfect position to pray.
Pass this on to someone you care about - I just did.

NB! Being happy doesn’t mean everything’s perfect.  It means you’ve decided to see beyond the imperfections.

My heart has heard YOU say, "Come and talk with ME."
And my heart responds, "LORD, I am coming."
Psalm 27:8 NLT

Jesus Loves You

We’ll never know when some little gestures can make a great difference in someone’s life.

The Pastor And His Son

Every Sunday afternoon, after the morning service at the church,
the Pastor and his eleven year old son would go out into their
town and hand out Gospel Tracts.

This particular Sunday afternoon, as the time came for the Pastor
and his son to go to the streets with their tracts, it was very
cold outside, as well as pouring down rain. The boy bundled up in
his warmest and driest clothes and said, "OK, dad, I’m ready."

His Pastor dad asked, "Ready for what?"

"Dad, it’s time we gather our tracts together and go out."

Dad responds, "Son, it’s very cold outside and it’s pouring down
rain."

The boy gives his dad a surprised look, asking, "But Dad, aren’t
people still going to Hell, even though it’s raining?"

Dad answers, "Son, I am not going out in this weather."

Despondently, the boy asks, ? Dad, can I go? Please."

His father hesitated for a moment then said, "Son, you can go.
Here are the tracts, be careful son."

"Thanks Dad!"

And with that, he was off and out into the rain. This eleven year
old boy walked the streets of the town going door to door and
handing everybody he met in the street a Gospel Tract.

After two hours of walking in the rain, he was soaking,
bone-chilled wet and down to his VERY LAST TRACT. He stopped on a
corner and looked for someone to hand a tract to, but the streets
were totally deserted. Then he turned toward the first home he
saw and started up the sidewalk to the front door and rang the
door bell. He rang the bell, but
nobody answered. He rang it again and again, but still no one
answered. He waited but still no answer.

Finally, this eleven year old trooper turned to leave, but
something stopped him. Again, he turned to the door and rang the
bell and knocked loudly on the door with his fist. He waited,
something holding him there on the front porch. He rang again and
this time the door slowly opened.

Standing in the doorway was a very sad-looking elderly lady. She
asked softly, "What can I do for you, son?"

With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her world, this little
boy said, "Ma’am, I’m sorry if I disturbed you, but I just want
to tell you that *JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU* and I came to give
you my very last Gospel Tract which will tell you all about JESUS
and His great LOVE."

With that, he handed her his last tract and turned to leave. She
called to him as he departed. "Thank you, son! And God Bless
You!"

Well, the following Sunday morning in church Pastor Dad was in
the pulpit. As the service began, he asked, "Does anybody have
testimony or want to say anything?"

Slowly, in the back row of the church, an elderly lady stood to
her feet.

As she began to speak, a look of glorious radiance came from her
face, "No one in this church knows me. I’ve never been here
before. You see, before last Sunday I was not a Christian. My
husband passed on some time ago, leaving me totally alone in this
world. Last Sunday, being a particularly cold and rainy day, it
was even more so in my heart that I
came to the end of the line where I no longer had any hope or
will to live.

So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the stairway into the
attic of my home. I fastened the rope securely to a rafter in the
roof, then stood on the chair and fastened the other end of the
rope around my neck. Standing on that chair, so lonely and
brokenhearted I was about to leap off, when suddenly the loud
ringing of my doorbell downstairs startled me. I thought, "I’ll
wait a minute, and whoever it is will go away."

I waited and waited, but the ringing doorbell seemed to get
louder and more insistent, and then the person ringing also
started knocking loudly. I thought to myself again, "Who on earth
could this be? Nobody ever rings my bell or comes to see me." I
loosened the rope from my neck and
started for the front door, all the while the bell rang louder
and louder.

When I opened the door and looked I could hardly believe my eyes,
for there on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic
little boy I had ever seen in my life. His SMILE, oh, I could
never describe it to you! The words that came from his mouth
caused my heart that had long been dead, TO LEAP TO LIFE as he
exclaimed with a cherub-like voice, " Ma’am, I just came to tell
you that JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU."

Then he gave me this Gospel Tract that I now hold in my hand.

As the little angel disappeared back out into the cold and rain,
I closed my door and read slowly every word of this Gospel Tract.
Then I went up to my attic to get my rope and chair.. I wouldn’t
be needing them any more. You see—I am now a Happy Child of the
KING. Since the address of your church was on the back of this
Gospel Tract, I have come here to
personally say THANK YOU to God’s little angel who came just in
the nick of time and by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity
in hell."

There was not a dry eye in the church. And as shouts of praise
and honor to THE KING resounded off the very rafters of the
building, Pastor Dad descended from the pulpit to the front pew
where the little angel was seated. He took his son in his arms
and sobbed uncontrollably.

Probably no church has had a more glorious moment, and probably
this universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with
love & honor for his son… Except for One. This Father also
allowed His Son to go out into a cold and dark world. He received
His Son back with joy unspeakable, and as all of Heaven shouted
praises and honor to The King, the Father sat His beloved Son on
a throne far above all principality and power and every name that
is named.

Blessed are your eyes for reading this message. Don’t let this
message die, read it again and pass it to others. Heaven is for
His people!

Remember, God’s message CAN make the difference in the life of
someone close to you. Do not be too shy to share that wonderful
message.

Hmmm… so much of learning curved for the past few months. Nothing were easy. That point in time, I was really close to have my nerve broke down as there were a few major things that totally blown me off. Again to summarize about the learning curve was all about “PATIENCE.” I really believe that God is molding my character and personality. At the same time, I also believe that I will not have made it without His strength, grace and mercy.

Indeed during this transition period, all the more I noticed that I need God all the more. One visible thing that i can share is that the more i walk on my own, the more i just got washed out and pushed out from the main plan that GOD has prepared for me. I was in the state where I could not worship God and even hold my bible because i felt unworthy. But still small voice guided and taught me to press in toward God and don’t drift further away.

At first I didnt understand why I have to face “wave by wave” of issue and learning in such a short span of time. I did cried out to GOD and shout for more grace and mercy. I was struggling so much becasue I had been moving with my own intelligent instead of moving with His wave of mercy. Currently I hope to get more rest in HIM and really walk victoriously in Christ Jesus. I pray for more great things to take place ahead and also pray for the confirmation for assurance in terms of relationship matter that I have been waiting for 9 months. I really really hope that this situation can bring in more positive energy and also the job i am doing now can be done with satisfactory result.

All these i prayed and surrender them unto our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen and Hallelujah!!!
